"The examination of the air in the room meant for fibergastroduodenoscopic researches (the total airspace of rooms is 50-80 m3) was carried out immediately after reception period and revealed 10 moruloids in the air. After four-minute ozone treatment procedure organized in the said room the air contained no microgerms. The examination chair in the proctologic room was studied. Prior to ozone treatment of the room 380 moruloids/m3 were found, ozone allowed to reduce their number to 30 moruloids/m3.

Similar data have been obtained in the gynecologic room and surgical hospital (wards, rooms for medical procedures and surgical dressing rooms). Prior to ozone treatment of these rooms 40-100 moruloids/m3 were found, after 1-10 moruloids/m3. The application of the portable ozonator produced by Orion-Si company offers several advantages over traditional techniques, namely reduction of the treatment period and increase of its reliability. Based on these advantages and the possibility to use a small-scale mobile unit one can recommend it for preventive treatment of a cross infection..."

"...Ozonator "ORION" allowed to improve the air quality in intensive care unit in the ward of purulent and septic patients. Besides it ensured improved results of inoculation carried out as part of sanitary and epidemiological control procedure. For instance, in comparison with traditional indoor disinfection techniques ozone treatment allowed to reduce considerably the expansion of staphylococcal flora, to eliminate blue pus bacteria and Friedlander's bacillus colonies. The ozone-treated wards with most patients suffering from purulent and septic processes caused by gunshot wounds and mechanical injuries and from peritonitis were compared. Moreover, ozone treatment helped to eliminate ill odors caused by specific pathologic discharges observed within these patients. Thus, it improved the environment the paramedical personnel and doctors work in. As for surgical department, the air in the operating room meant for immediate surgery was treated.

Taking into account the fact that the patients accepted in the operating room had dirty wounds and advanced pyoinflammatory diseases, inoculations in this room have always been the subject of great suspicion. As compared to test inoculations, the inoculations after using ozonator "ORION-Si" have improved and meet the quality of inoculations in ordinary operating rooms.

"Ozonator "Orion-Si" was tested in the indoor areas with the airspace of 70-200 m3:
- An hour ozone treatment was carried out once a week in 9 operating theatres after clear-out procedures;
- A fifteen-twenty-minute ozone treatment was carried out daily in 9 operating theatres after operations;
- A fifteen-twenty-minute ozone treatment was carried out daily in 8 operating theatres during clean-up procedures between the operations;
- An hour ozone treatment was carried out in the "purulent" surgical dressing room of the traumatology department with the air contaminated by pathogenic staphylococcus after clear-out procedures;
- An hour ozone treatment was carried out in the room for medical procedures of radiodiagnosis department after clear-out procedures.

Sanitary and biological laboratory of the hospital has examined 194 wipe samples. These analyses have showed neither conditionally pathogenic flora, nor postsurgical implications. Portable ozonator "ORION" used within the tract of 15-20 minutes up to an hour:
- is easy to use;
- ensures fast and efficient cleaning of the air in the indoor areas;
- was highly appreciated by the surgeons working in the rooms treated by the ozonator."

Thrice-repeated bacteriological examination of the inoculations from surgical instruments (forceps, hemostatic forceps), syringes (body, piston) and surgical vessels (enameled kidney-shaped basins) showed no pathogenic bacterial population after sterilization..."

"...In endoscopy department examination and surgical laparoscopes, laparoscopic operation instruments were sterilized. In surgical block surgical instruments, operating theatre lamp holders (handles) underwent ozone treatment. After 1,5 year of daily work we may conclude that instrument and equipment sterilization is of high level, and the unit is reliable in all respects. Efficient unit performance was especially evident during several laparoscopic operations of the patients suffering from urgent pathology. |
The examinations of wide samples and inoculations taken from the instruments that have undergone sterilization procedure proved great reduction of pathogenic bacterial content. "We have been using ozone sterilizers "Orion-Si" in the operating theatres of our institute since 2002. Every day surgical instruments, including those with optical elements, and different thermo-intolerant medical appliances are sterilized in it.
Our examinations proved high efficiency of instrument sterilization, i.e. no pathogenic bacterial content on the instruments and different medical appliances was found. Sterilizers "Orion-Si" are reliable and easy-to-use. Sterilization chambers are made of a transparent material: this ensures rational filling of the chamber and fast-access to the instrument required after its sterilization. |
Hence, the application of ozone sterilizers allowed our institute to increase the operating activity due to reduced sterilization time (to 20-30 minutes). Energy economy and reduction of instrument wear due to reduced sterilization time and avoidance of high temperature and pressure typical of autoclave treatment are also of great importance. Ozone sterilizers allowed our institute to save the trouble of using chemical sterilization methods that are long-lasting and produce ill effect on the environment..."

Nowadays ozone sterilizers are applied in laparoscopic, trau-matological, pus operating examination, operating theatres. Every day surgical instruments, including those with optical elements, and different thermo-intolerant medical appliances are sterilized in ozone sterilizers (including drills and other complex traumatological instruments).

Bacteriological laboratory of our institute has taken 123 inoculations of lavage fluid from surgical instruments and medical appliances so that to test their sterility after their treatment in ozone sterilizer. With no bacterial content being detected, we may conclude that ozone sterilizers "Orion-Si" have a high sterilizing effect."
